Celebrating Unity and Excellence: The 16th Annual General Meeting and Christmas Party of the Association of Filipino-Canadian Accountants in British Columbia
 

On the 2nd of December, 2023, the Association of Filipino-Canadian Accountants in British Columbia (AFCA-BC) held its 16th Annual General Meeting and Christmas Party, marking another milestone in the organization's journey of professional growth and community engagement. Hosted at the Cameron Recreation Complex in Burnaby, BC, the event unfolded in the Hemlock/Spruce Room, offering a vibrant blend of formal proceedings, recognition, and festive celebration from 12:30 to 4:30 pm.
 

The afternoon began with the essential setup, quickly transitioning into a networking session. Members and guests enjoyed drinks and light snacks, fostering connections and rekindling old friendships. The event officially started with a heartfelt recognition of First Nations Territory, followed by the formal call to order, notice of the meeting, and the unanimous approval of the agenda and the 2022 minutes of meeting.

The President’s welcome and report highlighted the past year's achievements and set a positive tone for the year ahead. The Treasurer’s report then provided transparency and insights into the financial health of the association, affirming its stable and growing foundation.
 

A significant segment of the meeting was dedicated to the nomination and election process. Members participated actively in appointing the Auditor and electing the 2024 Executive Council and Officers, demonstrating the democratic spirit that underpins the association's operations.
 

The event took a heartwarming turn as it honored members Cecil and Vance, acknowledging their contributions and dedication. This was followed by a breakout session and a team activity that not only offered a moment of reflection but also encouraged camaraderie among members.
 

As the afternoon progressed, food was served, and the room buzzed with more networking and shared stories. The Christmas Party officially commenced at 2:45 pm, featuring an array of activities including raffles, games that encouraged light physical movement post-meal, and a special MJ performance courtesy of Andy. The games, designed to engage members in friendly competition, laughter, and team spirit, were a highlight, fostering a sense of belonging and joy.
 

The event culminated in a group activity, rounding off the day with a message of unity and shared purpose. The closing moments reflected the essence of the AFCA-BC - a community that not only excels professionally but thrives in its commitment to inclusivity, recognition, and celebration.
